The Yuanverse Standardization group
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has taken a bold step towards shaping its own vision of the metaverse, announcing in a circular the formation of “Yuanverse Standardization Working Group” on Jan. 19. This initiative marks the government’s commitment to regulating, and developing the burgeoning virtual world, aiming to establish industry-wide standards for its future.
Tech giants to collaborate with China
The working group will gather experts from leading universities, and tech giants like Huawei and Tencent, Baidu, Inc., NetEase, and SenseTime 商汤科技, and relevant government agencies. They will collaborate with Chinese universities to shape the future of this transformative technology with the aim to establish rules for the organization of metaverse platforms and the development of a national metaverse platform, Yuanverse.
The proposed plan to form a Yuanverse standardization working group is another national-level action plan after China’s 3-year action plan for metaverse industry development which was released in September 2023.
