Nina Jane Patel is the Vice President of Metaverse Research for Kubani. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a bachelor’s degree in art, in 2000, and earned a master’s degree in Dance Movement Psychotherapy from the Goldsmiths University of London.
She started her career in 2014 as a choreographer at Atomic Cartoons, where she worked for a children’s television show for a year.
Patel is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of a technology company Kabuni Ventures, an immersive education Metaverse platform for children between ages 8 -16.
According to the Kabuni firm, building the safest area in the Metaverse for children to explore, Learn and Grow within and outside the school perimeters is one of their goals. “We are on a mission to unleash the design potential in every child and uplift lives.”
Patel has become an influential figure in the Metaverse industry. The Metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection.
She’s a board-certified Movement/Body Psychotherapy and advocates for safe, responsible approaches to the evolution of the Metaverse as she shares insightful and evidence-based approaches to integrate humanity and the Metaverse.
Nina Jane Patel came to the limelight when she openly reported her sexual harassment encounter in Meta’s Horizon Venues, a safe social environment to hang out with friends Via Oculus Quest 2.
Although there have been other cases of abuse in many Metaverses, Nina opened up the safety conversation around the metaverse and exposed the looming danger ahead.
Since her report, more people are speaking up about their ugly encounters spurring builders to take the ‘Avatar safe zone integration’, and safety seriously.
As part of her contribution to the evolution of the Metaverse, Nina is focused on research, child safety, and general metaverse safety. In 2022, Nina was awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts for new research investigating the relationship of the body, movement and self-expression in the Metaverse.
