MetaTabi Shoes
The Maison Margiela MetaTabi will be available for purchase as an NFT. A limited edition MetaTabi in black (1500 units) and a super-limited MetaTabi in white (15 units) both have the instantly identifiable split-toe form of the Tabi shoe.
Stefano Rosso, chairman of Maison Margiela and CEO of BVX said that “in a time where we are seeing technology being integrated more and more with the physical world, it is fundamental for the luxury industry to experiment and explore these digital realms.”
Each edition will provide owners with a variety of advantages in digital, physical, and mixed reality. This initiative is a collaboration between Maison Margiela and leading digital fashion firm The Fabricant, backed by Brave Virtual Xperiences (BVX) and the Aura Blockchain Consortium.
“At Maison Margiela, we believe that innovation is key to advancement in our industry, and it is an opportunity to further express the identity of our brand. Therefore, we are delighted to launch this new project, the very first Web3 initiative of Maison Margiela which is also linked to a physical product.”
Rosso added
Meanwhile, by late March, Tabi Boot will be released. The black MetaTabi boot has a custom-made Maison Margiela leather wallet.
“With MetaTabi, we’re introducing a revolutionary format for Maison Margiela’s iconic Tabi boot, blending tradition with innovation like never before. Through this partnership, users can experience an immersive preview of the Tabi boot via Augmented Reality (AR), while the physical-backed token offers access to a new world of utilities and benefits. This collaboration redefines the fashion experience, marking a new era in fashion accessibility and creativity.”
Kerry Murphy, co-founder of The Fabricant, highlighted.
However, the Fabricant platform will host the MetaTabi Collection using an Aura Blockchain Consortium Multi-Token Minter smart contract.
Noteably, this is Margiela’s first NFT fashion product; the company has previously interacted with the Web3 community. In October, it released a “numbers game” that requires participants to gather 24 token-linked numbers in order to be eligible for a free soulbound NFT, a NFT that is restricted from trading on public markets; the MetaTABI is not a soulbound NFT, according to Vogue Business.
