Mark Zukerberg was born in New York on May 14 1984. He is the CEO and co-founder of Meta platforms, formally Facebook which he founded in 2004. He owns and controls other social platforms: Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Oculus Quest.
He is a major advocate of the metaverse. On October 28, 2021, he officially renamed Facebook’s parent company to Meta, a move which he said is to help him focus on building the metaverse.
Since rebranding the company, Meta has engaged in many metaverse-related projects including NFTs. He is also expanding the work of Facebook reality labs to introduce 3D augmentation to NFTs.
Despite his scandals and criticisms, Mark is known to be vocal about his belief in the Metaverse, and the future of social connections. Although his ideas of the metaverse are designed for his platforms, no one knows if they will interoperate with other metaverse platforms in the long run.
Meta is also one of the Executive members of the XR Association. An organization dedicated to “promoting the responsible development and thoughtful advancement of virtual, augmented and mixed reality.”
“We are also going to work on Augmented reality NFTs, basically 3D NFTs, that you can bring to Instagram stories using Spark AR, our software AR platform, So you can put this kind of digital art into 3D spaces and kind of project it into physical spaces as well”...Mark Zukerberg, May 9, 2022.
