Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, on Wednesday signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement with START LAND Inc., which operates a virtual space, to promote regional revitalization using digital technology, according to Kochi News.

Employees of Kochi City Hall participated in the signing ceremony that was held on February 7. At the same time, the ceremony was held in the Metaverse area, where Mr. Kousei, CEO of START LAND Inc., and Ryugo Kuwana, Mayor of Kochi City, attended in avatar form.
“We have started a new initiative to utilize the Metaverse with the goal of developing markets in the areas of product sales and tourism,”

In addition to issuing NFTs (non-fungible tokens), START LAND Inc. runs the Metaverse community “START LAND,” which blends the real and virtual worlds and has about 20,000 users in Japan and abroad.
However, Kochi City is building a “Virtual Kochi City” within this virtual space, with the goal of increasing sales channels for specialty products, drawing tourists and encouraging immigration, and exploring its potential applications in the fields of welfare and education.
As of right now, preparations are being made for Virtual Kochi City, which is expected to begin full-scale operations in the summer of 2024.
