Apple revealed the first VisionOS 1.1 beta update on the Vision Pro for developers on Tuesday in a document. This is the first time Apple has released a beta version of VisionOS software for developers to test new features since the headset was launched on Friday.
TakeAway Points:
- Apple has released the first VisionOS 1.1 beta.
- Developers can now test new features on the beta version of VisionOS.
- With the new software, personas features have been improved, enterprise device management incorporated and users can get closer to 3D objects.
New software, VisionOS 1.1 beta on Vision Pro
The VisionOS beta is now available in the Settings of the Vision Pro headset for registered developers to explore, though there’s no information on what’s new in visionOS 1.1, Apple has recommended that backup should be done before installing the software.
VisionOS 1.1 brings a better personas version and looks forward to continuous improvement. After installation, Vision Pro users are led to recapture their Personas to get the latest appearance updates. In a document last week, Apple provides a guide for capturing an ideal Persona.
The Apple Device management has also been incorporated into the Vision Pro, IT pros can manage these devices in the same way as handling iPhones, iPads, watches and Macs, and employees can easily get activated when onboard.
“We’re going to bring device management capability into that beta,” Jeremy Butcher, Apple’s enterprise marketing head, told TechCrunch.
“We know that in order to unlock all of [the power of the Apple Vision Pro], businesses are going to want to manage these devices at scale. So the good news is we’ve got a lot of great technology to bring over to Vision Pro in that regard,”
he added.
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently said that Apple believes the Vision Pro will have a range of enterprise uses, from assisting in surgeries to managing warehouses and providing guides for complex mechanical work.
Released note update
The new software also tends to bring with it a fix that lets users of the headset get closer to objects in a 3D space. Apple’s release notes for the visionOS beta 1.1 update say “Near-user boundary for volumetric scenes have been modified. Users will now be able to reposition volumetric scenes much closer than before, which will enable easier direct interaction with the volumetric scene content”.
There is also a provision for resetting the Vision Pro on device in case users lose their passcode, and according to Apple’s release notes, users can now reposition volumetric scenes closer than before, enabling easier direct interaction with the volumetric scene content.
